Wage tax rates in Suriname 2026 — the brackets explained
Wage tax in Suriname is progressive: the higher the taxable annual wage, the higher the percentage on the part above each threshold. Below are the brackets the salary calculator applies, plus the deductions that affect them.
Wage tax brackets 2026 (annual wage)
The brackets apply to the taxable annual wage — after the tax-free base and deductible costs, not to gross pay.
| Bracket | Rate |
|---|---|
| SRD 0 – SRD 42,000 | 8% |
| SRD 42,000 – SRD 84,000 | 18% |
| SRD 84,000 – SRD 126,000 | 28.0% |
| SRD 126,000 + | 38% |
Tax-free base and deductible costs
Note the difference: deductible costs reduce the taxable wage, while benefits in kind increase it.
- Tax-free base: SRD 108,000 per year.
- Deductible costs: 4% of the wage, capped at SRD 4,800 per year (since 1 January 2024).
- Benefits in kind (for example free medical care): 3% of the annual wage, capped at SRD 200 per year — this is ADDED to the taxable wage.
Overtime is taxed separately
Overtime does not fall into the ordinary wage tax brackets. A separate, flatter set of rates applies to that month's overtime amount:
| Bracket | Rate |
|---|---|
| SRD 0 – SRD 2,500 | 5% |
| SRD 2,500 – SRD 7,500 | 15% |
| SRD 7,500 + | 25% |
Work it out yourself
Gross pay of SRD 10,000 per month, with the tax-free base and deductible costs applied, gives a taxable annual wage of SRD 7,200 — entirely within the first bracket, so SRD 576 of wage tax per year, or SRD 48 per month.
