APF pension in Suriname: 8.5% on a monthly base capped at SRD 5,000
APF (Algemeen Pensioenfonds) is not charged on the whole wage. The premium applies to a base that is the monthly wage held between a floor and a ceiling, and the employee and the employer each pay the same percentage of that same base. Once you know the two bounds, the APF line on a payslip is easy to check.
The base is capped, not the wage
The premium is 8.5% of a base that is the monthly wage — never lower than SRD 500 and never higher than SRD 5,000.
A wage of SRD 8,000 and a wage of SRD 5,000 therefore have the same base, and so the same premium: above the ceiling the APF simply stops growing.
Both sides pay it
The employee pays 8.5% of the base, and the employer pays 8.5% of that same base again. The employee's share reduces net pay; the employer's share does not, but it is part of what the employee costs.
At the ceiling that is SRD 425.00 from each side, every month.
The floor matters at the bottom
Because the base is never lower than SRD 500, the premium never falls below SRD 42.50 a month — even for a wage below the floor.
That is a minimum premium, not an exemption, and it is why a very small payslip can still carry an APF line.
What it looks like on a payslip
On a wage of SRD 600 a month the base is SRD 600, so the employee's premium is SRD 51.00, matched by the employer.
On a wage above the ceiling the line is the same every month, whatever the wage: SRD 425.00.
What we do not state
This page describes how the premium is calculated, not who must take part in the scheme. Conditions of participation, pensionable age and waiting periods are not established by the payroll calculation, so they are deliberately not claimed here.
The rate and the two bounds are the product's own figures; have them verified before relying on this page as authoritative.
Frequently asked questions
- Is APF calculated on my whole salary?
- No. It is calculated on the part of the monthly wage between SRD 500 and SRD 5,000, so the premium stops growing at SRD 425.00.
- Does the employer pay APF as well?
- Yes — the same percentage of the same base, on top of your gross wage. It is a cost to the employer and is not deducted from you.
- What if my wage is below the floor?
- The base is still SRD 500, so the minimum premium of SRD 42.50 a month applies.
